Green Value was a study undertaken by
Sequel's Chris Corps commencing in 2004, published in November 2005.
It looked at whether there is value in sustainable attributes of green
buildings by reviewing case studies in the US, Canada and UK, as well as
reviewing available literature, worldwide.
Green Value was the
first study of its kind that we are aware of. Leading edge in its
day, the conclusions as to how value can be identified remain valid and
are not expected to change over time, because they address the process
for evaluating sustainable attributes, rather than actually pricing them
(which would have quickly dated the study).
Today, considerably
more has been published about the impact on value from green building
attributes and it is now impossible to keep up with the variety, scope
and depth of analyses. While many have a foundation of
professional academic review, not all have been subjected to the
impartiality of professional peer assessment that was at the foundation
of Green Value. Green Value was supported and co-managed by
multiple government agencies on two continents and undertaken by the
RICS, the world's largest real estate profession.
We are pleased to have
initiated, led and completed it and continue to thank the multiple
partners that brought the study to life. Canada Green Building
Council continue to provide references to it, which we consider a
testament to its longevity and neutrality.
Green Value is in three
parts, with the original launching presentation at GreenBuild in Atlanta
